The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU) has established an award of up to $2,000 in honour of Ken Hildahl. Ken started as an MGEU activist at the Manitoba Youth Centre and served on the Board as Component Director, 1st Vice President and as 2nd Vice President before beginning his MGEU staff career as a staff representative. He later became the Director of Membership Services and the Director of Operations. Ken left the MGEU to pursue opportunities in labour education before moving to Manitoba Blue Cross and then becoming CEO of the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission. Ken advanced many initiatives in the labour movement but especially dear to him were the concepts of worker empowerment and the democratization of pension plans.
